Bangalore gradually took shape as a band over the summer of 1999, the outgrowth of a drumming-and-jam workshop instigated by guitarist Phil Kaplan and bassist Sven Larson. A decades-long love and study of West African drumming and North Indian classical music, blended with a solid grounding in American roots musics, was to be mixed, spiced, and simmered to a rich and pungent blend. The result is a diverse repitoire of tunes that remain organic and consistent to the sound of the group.

Now, as we sail into 2005 and beyond, Bangalore has a new full-length album, a solid core of original songs and uniquely treated covers, which we are continually adding to as our musical wanderlust keeps pushing us full speed ahead. Bangalore offers memorable, rhythm-heavy melodies (and hooks!) that are also vehicles and structures for improvisation and interplay, in the great Jazz tradition, albeit with some exotic spicing!
